Viscose Fabric Properties, What is Viscose?

Viscose is a textile raw material that produced from beech. Viscose fabric is also known by the same name. It is also known as artificial silk or rayon fabric. The word “rayon” came from English as; ray (sunlight), on (cotton) in the form of cotton-like glittering fabric.

Viscose fibers are structurally cotton-like, cellulosic. It is mentioned as a natural and healthy fabric. However, producing yarns from wood has some prosesses and we do not know whether this process is disturbing the health. Indeed, the efect of cottons on health is also debatable. The pesticides used in the production and the chemicals used when processing the product affect the quality of the product. That is why you can often see organic cotton labels in baby clothes.

Anyway, let’s go back to our article again.

The viscose fabric holds more moisture than cotton, wrinkles more quickly and it is more flexible. A bit of a shiny fabric. It is resistant to moisture when compared to cotton.

It has some kinds that mixed with cotton, mixed with polyester or plain viscose. Polyester mixed one is called as polyviscose fabric. Polyviscose (Poly Rayon) fabric contains 80% polyester and 20% viscose material. As can be expected, the polyviscose exhibits more properties of the polyester.

Viscose is, in general, according to the ratio of the other yarn, comfortable to use, loose, non-internal, light, not sweaty and sweat-absorbing, a soft fabric. Due to its slippery structure, it is compatible with the skin, does not cause any discomfort.

Usage of Viscose

It is not a very woven fabric. This makes it breatheable. Viscose fabric is wrinkled more and quickly than cotton. However, its ironing is comfortable. It has a little shiny appearance. It is preferred mostly in summer and daily clothes.
Daily clothes such as lining, dress, skirt, trouser skirt, underwear, tunic, shirt, shalwar, tshirt and blouse can be sewn from viscose fabric.

Considerations for Sewing Viscose Fabrics?

How to Wash / Care the Viscose Fabric?

Temperature is very important in viscose fabric washing process. It can be washable on hand under 40 degrees. After washing process, you should spread it in order to make it dry. Do not use centrifugal drying absolutely.

For the best results in viscose fabric cleaning, dry cleaning is recommended. Clothes that thrown into the washing machine may wear. Also they may haul off and loose their brightness.
