Materials for Baby Car Seat Cover:

In selecting materials for your DIY baby car seat cover, consider versatile cotton fabrics such as poplin or duvet cover material. Muslin fabric, with its excellent breathability, is also a preferred choice, especially for keeping your little one comfortable during warmer seasons.

  • Fabric measuring 90cm x 105cm (two pieces if using in two directions)
  • 20cm Velcro (2cm wide)
  • Sewing threads in suitable colors
  • Optionally: button, snap, or ribbon for front closure function

Step-by-Step Guide to Sew a Baby Car Seat Cover:

     1: Preparing Materials

  • Wash the fabric at a low temperature to prevent shrinkage.
  • Iron the fabric after drying for a polished result.

    2: Cutting Fabric

  • Cut the fabric into dimensions of 90×105 cm. The 90cm edge will be at the front of the stroller.
  • If using two pieces, ensure they are the same size.

    3: Assembling the Fabric

  • Place the fabric pieces right sides facing each other and pin around the edges.
  • Optionally, round the edges using a plate for a softer look.

  • Mark the center of the front edge and draw 37 cm upwards. Cut along this line, creating a gap for the baby’s face. In order to make the front part fine, cut the upper part about 1 cm from the side. 1cm is for sewing properly.

    4: Front Closure Preperation

  • Prepare the closure piece (button, snap, or ribbon).
Attach the closure piece to the front part of the cover and pin it in place. Because the fabric pattern is very vibrant, it looks like the front side of the fabric. But in reality, I pinned the right sides of the fabric facing each other.
  • Sew around with a 1 cm seam allowance, leaving a gap for turning it inside out.
  • Turn it inside out and iron it. Sew the edges for a neat finish.

    5: Preparing Holders

  • Cut two pieces of fabric measuring 9×32 cm.
  • Fold each piece in half and sew around the sides, leaving one edge open.
  • Turn the holder inside out through the open space and sew it shut.
  • Cut a 10 cm length of Velcro and sew it onto the holder.

  • Mark the holder 5 cm from its edge.
  • Place the marked part in its designated spot on the cover and sew it in place.
  • Repeat the process for the opposite side of the closure.
