Pet Bed Sewing Free Pattern and Easy Tutorial
DIY Washable Pet Bed Tutorial – Easy & Comfortable Sewing Guide
Are you looking for an easy way to make a DIY washable pet bed for your furry friend? If so, you’re in the right place! In this step-by-step tutorial, I will guide you on how to create a cozy and machine-washable pet bed. Not only is this pet bed comfortable, but it’s also super easy to sew. Plus, it’s washable at 30-40°C, making it a practical choice for pet owners.
Although I designed this bed for a cat, you can easily adjust the pattern to make it suitable for dogs as well by increasing the dimensions.

Materials You Need
To make this DIY washable pet bed, I chose fleece fabric since cats love its softness. However, when I visited the fabric store, the salesperson recommended furry fabric as well, as cats tend to prefer it even more. Interestingly, the fabric I bought is also used in making collars and similar items.
For this project, I purchased 1 meter of fleece and 1 meter of furry fabric. This way, both sides of the pet bed are usable, providing extra comfort for your pet.
Step-by-Step Guide to Sewing a DIY Washable Pet Bed
Step 1: Prepare the Pattern & Cut the Fabric
- First, start by drawing the pattern on newspaper as shown below.
- Then, transfer the pattern onto the back of the fabric and cut out two identical fabric pieces (each 82cm x 82cm) with seam allowance.

Step 2: Sew the Outer Layer
- Next, place the right sides of the fabric together.
- Secure the fabric with pins and insert ribbons at the corners to tie the edges later.
- After that, stitch around the edges, but leave the part marked in red unsewn. This opening will be used to insert the fiber filling.

Step 3: Turn the Fabric & Stitch the Center
- Now, flip the fabric right side out.
- Then, mark a square in the center, pin the layers together, and sew around it—except for the part marked in green.

Step 4: Fill the Bed with Fiber
- At this stage, begin stuffing the fiber filling into the center through the green-marked opening.
- Once filled, hand-stitch the opening closed.
- Finally, proceed by filling the corners and sewing the remaining unstitched areas.
